BTS Military Service: Mandatory Military Service Impact on K-Pop Kings

BTS’ management, BigHit Music, declared on Wednesday that the remaining four members of the beloved K-Pop boy band are now commencing their military service. Following Jin, Suga, and J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook are also heading towards military enlistment.

BigHit Music’s Official Announcement

In a recent statement released by the South Korean music label on Wednesday morning, they conveyed, “Hello. This is BIGHIT music. We would like to inform our fans that RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook have initiated the military enlistment process. The artists are preparing to fulfill their military service duties. We will keep you updated as things progress. We appreciate your continued love and support for RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook until they complete their military service and return safely. Our company is committed to providing unwavering support for our artists. Thank you.”

Responses to BTS Members’ Enlistment

Numerous BTS Army members voiced their feelings on X (formerly Twitter) and expressed their sadness, recognizing that this development was inevitable. One user shared, “I’m sad that Joon, Tae, Jimin, and JK are enlisting, but remembering that this is the end of the BigHit enlistment notice era.” Another struck a more positive tone, stating, “The next ‘hello, this is BigHit Music’ announcement will be Jin finishing his service.” “BigHit is actually impressive for announcing enlistment right after concerts,” commented a third user. Another user added optimistically, “It’s just a pre-notice; we still have a lot of time together.”

Mandatory Military Service in Korea

For those unfamiliar, all Korean men aged 18 to 28 are obligated to serve in the military for 20 months. Jin and J-Hope, who began their military service last year, will complete it in 2025. Suga commenced his military enlistment earlier this year. Although all BTS members have been releasing individual projects since their enlistment, the boy band is anticipated to reunite in 2025.
