Maruti Suzuki Baleno Overview

Maruti Suzuki Baleno gets a mid-life update with fresh set of cosmetic and added features inside the cabin. The vehicle is available in four trims – Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. The vehicle is available in petrol and diesel engine options. The vehicle is available in six colour options – pearl artic white, premium silver, nexa blue, autumn orange, phoenix red and magma grey.

The Baleno hatchback now features a revised bumper which sports a wider centre air-dam and air ducts on either side which are surrounded by the C-shaped profile. The new grille features a three-dimensional detailing and has been slightly tweaked to make the face look wider. The vehicle now gets precision cut two tone 16-inch alloy wheels.

For freshness, the Baleno now gets black interiors with premium blue detailing. The hatchback gets a dual tone seat fabric design and an upgraded next generation Smartplay Studio connected infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The device also gives out vehicle information and alerts on low fuel, parking brake, etc. Standard safety features includes dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat mounts and rear parking sensors are standard.

Under the hood, the Baleno is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine that generates 84bhp of power and 140Nm of torque. The diesel on the other hand gets a 1.3-litre engine that generates 75bhp of power and 190Nm of torque. Both the engines get a five speed manual as standard, while the petrol offers a CVT option.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno Exteriors

The highlighting feature of Maruti Suzuki Baleno cars is its sporty look. A glance at Baleno images shows a unique and extravagant appeal. Its wide stance makes it appear like a big car. However, it has modest specifications. The Baleno length is 3995mm whereas its width and height are 1745mm and 1510mm respectively. Its wheelbase of 2520mm makes Suzuki Baleno an extremely stable car. Baleno ground clearance of 170mm is better than that of other hatchbacks in its segment. It is not a high ground clearance, but can still sail over obstacles on the roads.

Its angular headlights complement the beauty of this car. The robust grille with the Suzuki symbol presents an imposing sight. Some of its variants come with attached fog lamps whereas the base models have provisions for the same. Specific Baleno models come with black alloy wheels. However, the characteristic features present in all Baleno variants are LED rear combination lamps and rear parking assist sensors. Baleno comes in six beautiful colours, such as Magma Grey, Nexa Blue, Pearl Arctic White, Premium Silver, Phoenix Red, and Autumn Orange.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno Interiors

This is the most important part of the car, as this is where majority of the time is spent. The interiors of Marutis have been highly appealing, be it the Celerio or even Ciaz or the new Swift. The Baleno is no exception and this is the new hatchback that gets a new set of interiors. The Baleno gets a new set of interiors and the dashboard is highly appealing. Pictures don’t do justice to this hatchback’s interiors as they do look stylish and are premium.

The steering wheel is the next-generation Maruti design and it has a new instrument cluster with a TFT screen that shows current fuel efficiency, average fuel efficiency, distance to empty, current torque and power being used. The top-of-the-line variant gets Apple’s CarPlay system that is a good integration of the latest technology in a car. Maruti claims that Android Auto will also be soon added to this list.

The space on the Baleno is good in both the rows, however it is a bit uncomfortable at the rear as the recline is limited. There are no rear AC vents, but still the cooling is good enough. We still have to test this product in the heats of Indian summer and give a complete feedback. The Baleno’s ergonomics is well-sorted and there are no negatives that we could find.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno Transmission

While the S-Cross got a brand new diesel, the Baleno unfortunately has to do with the tried and tested mills. Petrol is the same 1.2 litre K-Series engine which pushes out 85 PS @ 6000 rpm and 115 Nm of torque @ 4000 rpm. While the engine feels refined and linear in its power delivery its feels just like a Swift when it comes to performance. The diesel too gets the same DDiS mill from the Swift with 75 PS and 190 Nm which is a tad bit disappointing considering the 90 PS tune would have been ideal. While the diesel offers slightly more punch compared to the petrol, it feels noisier with the diesel clatter filtering into the cabin

Both the engines come mated to the 5-speed gearbox which works well in the diesel but feels a tad bit notchy in the petrol. There is also an option of a CVT gearbox for people wanting an automatic. The gearbox has the typical rubber-band effect of most CVT’s when you put your foot down, but then for most of its in town use feels quite adept. We can’t help feel that Maruti could have offered or should in the future at least offer more powerful engine options considering how capable the platform is. But what you do get is class-leading fuel efficiency with the petrol claiming 21.4 kmpl and the diesel a whopping 27.9 kmpl.To know more information on Maruti Baleno visit Resultmag

Maruti Suzuki Baleno Driving

The ride of the Baleno car is very good. We have only driven the 195/55R16 (top-of-the-line variant) and yet to experience the other variant that comes shod with smaller tyres. But the ride will more of less remain the same. The suspension absorbs all the bumps with ease making it a smooth ride. On the other hand, the handling of the Baleno is just more evolved than the Swift. The alacrity of the chassis is a lot more superior to the other Maruti products thanks to the lighter weight chassis. This not just enhances the power and efficiency, but also improves the driving dynamics. The steering wheel too is light and feels comfortable to drive in city. It does weigh up a bit making it a joy to drive on the highways too.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno Safety

Baleno cars come with high-quality suspension, such as Macpherson Strut for the front wheels and Torsion Beam for the rear, to ensure that its passengers get an uneventful driving experience, even on bumpy countryside roads. Baleno tyre size of 195/55R16 is ideal for a hatchback of this size. Ventilated disc brakes on all wheels prevent skidding on slippery roads. A manual handbrake makes it possible for Baleno cars to remain stationary while parking as it prevents the vehicle from rolling backwards.

All Baleno variants come with dual airbags for driver and front seat passenger. Rear sensors with camera allow you to park your Baleno without any problems. ABS and EBD provide incident-free braking as it prevents skidding of the wheels when you apply sudden brakes. Maruti Suzuki Baleno Final Thought

The Baleno is based on the new, Suzuki fifth-generation platform that is lighter, rigid and safer. Designs are subjective and the Baleno doesn’t top the list when it comes to styling, but what it gets is a complete package from the country’s best-selling car maker. The interior quality, the space and the drivability is one of the best in its segment. Maruti is ticking all the correct boxes with the Baleno and this is what the customers need. This is the new-generation Maruti and it stands strong, sending a signal to the competition that it is not going to stay quiet and it will not give up its market share. It is there to lead and hold on its market share. The Baleno is the first one and many more are coming in.

Maruti Suzuki is once again flexing its muscles with the Baleno and this is the segment that is already on a rise. The brand value adds on to it and it makes it a great option to buy, especially the petrol. Once the price tags are revealed that is when we can give a clear opinion. The only think that will stop buyers from getting a Baleno is the badge value that Maruti Suzuki holds in the premium segment at the moment in the premium segment.
